To give some idea of the confusion of information surrounding these lists:
The Elder Dempster Roll of Honour of the crew lost on the SS Burutu contains 77 names. 9 of these names do not appear in the Deaths at Sea register in that period, there is 1 name for the Burutu in the Deaths at Sea register which does not appear on the Roll of Honour.
These discrepancies could be due to mistakes in the roll of honour, inaccurate crew lists, the roll containing sailors lost in other incidents as well as the sinking or several other reasons.
So, there were either 77, 78 or 68 or 69 crew members lost!
Remember also that the numbers given for the crew in various reports are 95 or 98, and the number of crew survived is given as 22 or 25, this means that the number of crew lost could be 70, 73 or 76 - none of which match with the numbers above!
