CITY MAN DROWNED
Lost in Sinking of the Liner Burutu.
News has just been received in Aberdeen that Mr Frederick Henderson, European reader, Government Printing Office, Lagos, West Africa, eldest son of Mr John Henderson, 46 Mount Street, of the "Aberdeen Daily Journal," has been lost at sea from the liner Burutu, which was in collision with another vessel on 3rd inst. Mr Henderson was on his way home to Aberdeen on leave. He was well known in the printing trade in Aberdeen, having acted for several years as a teacher of the typographical classes in Gordon's College. For a number of years he was in the jobbing department of the "Aberdeen Daily Journal" and was subsequently engaged in the commercial department.
Mr Henderson was also prominent in boating circles while in Aberdeen. He was for some time secretary of the rowing section of the Gymnastic and Rowing Club, and for two of three years discharged the secretarial duties in connection with the annual regattas on the Dee.
He was also a member of the Bon-Accord Gold Club. Mr Henderson made many friends by his sociable and likeable disposition, and the news of his death will be received with much regret by all who knew him. He took up the position which he occupied at Lagos about five years ago, but had been home several times on leave since.
